Diffusion filters have been an option for noise attenuation in seismic imaging. This paper discusses Complex diffusion filter as a methodology for structural smoothing. Diffusion filters are constructed from the solution of partial differential equations (PDEs). The Complex Diffusion filter is constructed through an extension of Hale’s filter for structural smoothing of seismic images where the diffusivity tensor is weighted by a complex parameter. The complex diffusion filter produces two output images, one associated to real part and another associated to imaginary part . The real part is smoothed over the seismic reflectors, while the imaginary part emphasizes more strongly normal events to reflector, appearing as a possible discontinuities detector. In this paper, we discuss the theory of these types of filters and make applications to seismic image processing as directional smoothing of speed models, structural filtering of migrated images and preconditioning of the objective functions gradient used in the inversion of seismic wave field. |
