Resumo:
We investigate seismic illumination in continental slope areas using wavefront construction and wave-equation pre-stack depth migration. This study utilizes a model representative of the strong lateral velocity variation which degrades the quality of seismic imaging in these areas. The wavefront construction is applied to compute traveltimes and amplitudes maps that can be used to define areas of poor seismic illumination. Likewise, wave-equation pre-stack migration is used to compute source illumination maps without the limitations of ray theory but of limited angular aperture. The use of these two methods allows one to better design the seismic acquisition and which can improve the quality of seismic imaging. This work is focused in the description and the implementation of the algorithms.
