Resumo:
The environmental problems arising from solid waste and its inadequate disposal have been gradually worsening with the increase in consumption and the exhaustion of areas foe waste disposal. Thus, in Brazil since the National Solid Waste Policy was approved in 2010, the replacement of landfills by landfills has become an obligation for public administrations. The municipalities must adopt a careful planning to define the place where the landfill will be implanted, through the adoption of restrictive technical, environmental, social and economic criteria. In view of the large amount of solid waste discarded in open dumps, contaminating the soil, water and air, there was a need to carry out a study to improve and the final disposal of this waste. In this sense, the present work sought to select suitable areas for landfill implantation in the municipalities of Tucuruí and Breu Branco, in the state of Pará. However, finding suitable areas for the implantation of a landfill is not easy task, as it is a measure environmentally appropriate, it has several criteria for its economic, social, environmentally and political viability. To this end, the methodology used concepts from the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the selection of the together with the GIS, to examine the restrictive and staggered criteria. The result is materialized in maps that provide the characteristics to be considered in the analyzes and, finally, the crossing of these, the indications and selection of the best areas for final disposal, of the residues. The municipalities presented a very restrictive scenario for the implantation of landfills and the map of potential areas, showed 19 excellent areas to receive landfills. Finally, the study showed that geoprocessing in conjunction with multicriteria analysis in an effective and low-cos tool for analyzing the choice of landfill areas.
