It has as general objective to discuss the elements of indexation policy from the indexing process of the Library of the College of Dentistry, which motivated the development of two specific objectives, a) Search the literature on indexing procedures, indexing policy and its elements; and b) Investigate the possible elements of indexation policy present during the indexing process in the Library of the College of Dentistry of UFPA. Thus, assumes the research as a qualitative exploratory character, through a case study and for the data collection was used the questionnaire as an instrument. It resulted in the presence of 16 elements (indicated and identified) of the 17 that were used as reference, and among them, some deserve to be highlighted because they require more specific reflections, based on what the literature presents, elements identified and indicated as presentation: indexer (training); completeness; correction; and 1 element that was neither indicated nor identified as present: the evaluation of the recovery by subject. It thus considers the characterization of a policy, which allows to infer that because the institution provides guidelines for the performance of the subject indexing activity, understood as conduct, has an indexation policy. This finding does not invalidate the need to elaborate and implement an index policy manual. Consiste em um estudo acerca do processo de indexação no tratamento temático da informação, mais especificamente sobre os elementos que podem compor uma política de indexação, cujo problema de pesquisa pensado a partir da ausência de uma política de indexação formalizada oficialmente na Biblioteca da Faculdade de Odontologia da UFPA, o que suscitou na seguinte questão: é possível identificar elementos de política de indexação mesmo não existindo um manual de política de indexação na instituição? Tem por objetivo geral discutir sobre os elementos de política de indexação a partir do processo de indexação da Biblioteca da Faculdade de Odontologia, que motivou o desenvolvimento de dois objetivos específicos, a) Realizar busca na literatura sobre procedimentos da indexação, política de indexação e seus elementos; e b) Investigar os possíveis elementos de política de Indexação presentes durante o processo de indexação na Biblioteca da Faculdade de Odontologia da UFPA. Assume assim, a pesquisa como qualitativa de caráter exploratório, através de um estudo de caso e para a coleta dos dados foi utilizado o questionário como instrumento. Obteve como resultado a presença de 16 elementos (indicados e identificados) dos 17 que foram postos como referência, e dentre eles, alguns merecem destaque por necessitarem de reflexões mais específicas, tendo como base o que apresenta a literatura, os elementos identificados e indicados como presentessão: indexador (formação); exaustividade; correção; e 1 elemento que não foi indicado e nem identificado como presente: a avaliação da recuperação por assunto. Considera assim a caracterização de uma política, o que permite inferir que por a instituição conceder orientações para a realização da atividade de indexação de assunto, entendido como condutas, possui uma política de indexação.
