The crossed breast feeding is the nursing practice, in that the child receives a milk that is not produced their mother, but for other woman, without any previous treatment, consisting of a breast-feeding modality that can put in risk the health of the infant. Objective: this work had as objective investigates the Prevalence of crossed breast feeding and knowledge about this practice, among the pregnant women assisted in the Family’s Health Strategy of the of the Municipal district of Belém, state of Pará. Methods: a quant-qualitative research was accomplished, with drawing of descriptive study, observational of the traverse type. The subjects of the research were 85 pregnant women assisted in PSF Galo I, Galo II e Canal da Visconde. The data were collected through the application of semi-structured questionnaire, among the months of September to November of 2013. Results: The prevalence of crossed breast feeding found was of 61,54% among the women that already had children, most of the pregnant women interviewees would breastfeed the son of another person case was requested without any restriction, as well as they would ask for another woman to breastfeed her son case found necessary. A big percentile (94, 87%) of interviewees witnessed the crossed breast feeding. Practically all the pregnant women told that didn't receive information on the risks of the breast feeding crossed by the team of health during the accomplishment of the prenatal. The reasons that justified the practice crossed breast feeding were: the difficulty to breastfeed and the mother's absence temporary or definitive. Conclusion: the historical conceptions culturally established on the maternal breast feeding, the solidarity feeling, the altruism among the mothers, the incentive to the maternal breast feeding without emphasizing their against indications, together with the lack of information on the risks of the breast feeding, they were configured in this research as the main reasons for the practice of the crossed breast feeding.
