The goal of this study is to perform the interpretation of 3D seismic data by applying seismic attributes and the cross-plots method. The seismic and well data were provided by Total company and belong to the southern portion of the Viking Graben sub-basin, located in the North Sea, southern coast of Norway. Initially, the interpretation was made by applying the instantaneous amplitude and similarity attributes to the seismic lines at the position of well 14-1. Then, scatter plots were produced through the cross-plots method, which correlate the instantaneous attributes (amplitude and frequency) with the effective porosity log, in order to enhance the initial interpretations. The simultaneous application of the instantaneous amplitude and similarity attributes allowed the identification of high amplitude anomalies and coherence contrasts along the well. Thus, it was possible to define the lithological changes near the Frigg Formation. The cross-plots provided complementary information to the initial interpretation, which indicated the presence of a reservoir in the Frigg Formation. The first scatter plot showed high correlation between
the low instantaneous amplitude intervals and the high effective porosity intervals; the second, indicated the presence of low frequencies in the intervals where there is high effective porosity in the well log. Finally, the well report corroborated the interpretations made with the help of the seismic attributes. Keywords: seismic interpretation; seismic attributes; reservoir; well data; opendtect. |
