Thus was developed a theory-based, with emphasis on the demographic aspects of aging; elucidating aspects about the elderly and the ill, physiology and anatomy of the central and peripheral nervous system, human memory, morphological changes in the elderly and dementia, and how scope of the study, the Alzheimer's and their drug treatments and non-medicated. This is because, from a qualitative, bringing also support various authors that explore the theme worked. The data analysis undertaken here has thematic discussions, obtained from the survey of records related to the implementation of the research protocol of patients enrolled from March 2004 to March 2007. The draft of this research was approved by the Ethics Committee of the hospital. The average population served showed: evolution unchanged (55%), female (62%), school average (27.5%) and time of complaint > 1 year (63%). The results indicated the need for an extension of the concept of dementia not to continue the difficulties of diagnosis, particularly in the initial phase of the process when, often, the patient is unrelated to their cognitive deficits or try to minimize them and disguising them, not to mention the important recognition of the family in care and the need for inter-and multidisciplinary work, to an adequate preparation of professionals, to enhance the human aspects of care to elderly patients. Este estudo traz como escopo descrever o perfil clínico epidemiológico da população idosa atendida no Ambulatório de Neurologia do Hospital de Clínicas Gaspar Vianna (HCGV), enfatizando os achados cognitivos, por tratar-se de uma instituição de saúde de referência na região Norte na área de psiquiatria e que desenvolve um importante trabalho com pessoas portadoras do Mal de Alzheimer. Para tanto, foi desenvolvida uma teoria de base, com destaque para os aspectos demográficos do envelhecimento; aspectos elucidativos acerca do idoso e do adoecer; da fisiologia e anatomia do sistema nervoso central e periférico; memória humana, alterações morfológicas no idoso e síndrome demencial; e, como escopo do estudo, o mal de Alzheimer e seus tratamentos medicamentosos e não-medicamentosos. Trata-se, pois, de uma abordagem do tipo descritiva, trazendo também suporte de autores diversos que estudam o tema trabalhado. A análise dos dados aqui empreendida possibilitou discussões temáticas, obtidas a partir do levantamento de prontuários associados à aplicação de protocolo de pesquisa de pacientes matriculados no período de março de 2004 a março de 2007. O anteprojeto desta pesquisa foi aprovado pela Comissão de Ética do hospital. A população média atendida evidenciou: evolução inalterada (55%); sexo feminino (62%); escolaridade média (27.5%) e tempo de queixa  1 ano (63%). Os resultados apontaram para a necessidade de uma ampliação do conceito de demência para que não persistam as dificuldades do diagnóstico, particularmente, na fase inicial do processo, quando, não raro, o paciente encontra-se alheio aos seus déficits cognitivos ou tenta minimizá-los e disfarçá-los, isso sem falar no importante reconhecimento da família no cuidado, assim como a necessidade de trabalho inter e multidisciplinar, visando a um preparo adequado dos profissionais, no sentido de valorizar os aspectos humanos do cuidado aos pacientes idosos. 2022-11-10T14:53:52Z 2022-11-10T14:53:52Z 2009 Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso - Graduação CARVALHAL, Cyro Daniel; FERREIRA, Dennys Ranieri Santos.
