The voice is an important way in interpersonal communication. For many professionals is an essential tool, and the teachers stand out as a group often affected by vocal alterations, or both for misuse, as abusive. These changes finish for harming the continuation of their work activity. Objective: to analyze the occurrence of voice disorders in students which are concluding courses of teachers’ formation of a higher education institution. Method: clinical, personal and professional information had been collected through proper questionnaire, referring the 79 students that were concluding courses of teachers’ formation (letters, visual arts, history, geography, education and mathematics) of a particular college. Results: of the interviewed, 43.1% were female and 56.9% male, 63.2% already taught in any institution. It was observed, among the students who reported some type of vocal complaints (72.1%) the triad: pain / irritation in the oropharynx (49.3%), hawk (49.3%) and hoarseness (45.5%) as symptoms of greater frequency. Of all students who had some symptoms related to inappropriate use of voice only 22.8% reported usually maintain some care with the voice, while 77.2% reported not present or maintain this habit. Of all students who already taught 82% had some symptoms related to inappropriate use of voice. The symptoms was 26% in those who drank little water, and 30% in those who drank lots of water. Of the group surveyed 6.4% were smokers, 46.8% made use alcoholic beverage and 2.5% consumed illegal drugs. Only 19% reported having received some guidance on the correct use of voice during graduation. Conclusion: the changes in voice showed high incidence in the students that are finishing courses of teachers’ formation, making it necessary to appropriate information about the vocal changes and their prevention, to ensure a voice more appropriate to the practice of teaching.
