Introduction: The improvement in anxiety symptoms after bariatric surgery may not remain stable in the long term, favoring the adoption of dysfunctional eating behaviors, which can impair nutritional status. Objective: To test the association between weight regain and sociodemographic profile with the level of anxiety in women in the late postoperative period of bariatric surgery. Method: Fifty women who underwent Gastric or Sleeve Bypass after 24 months or more, attended in an extension project at the Federal University of Pará, were evaluated. Data were collected through a Sociodemographic, Anthropometric, Psychological Monitoring, and Eating Behavior Questionnaire through The Three Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ-21), in addition to the Beck Inventory Anxiety Score (BAI). Results: All participants had moderate to severe anxiety symptoms. The participants who were without psychological support had higher body weight (p=0.049) and higher weight recurrence (p=0.040). There was a positive correlation between the anxiety score and weight recurrence and a negative correlation between the anxiety score and family income. However, the correlation with weight regain seems to be influenced by surgery time. Conclusion: The level of anxiety was associated with relapse of weight and family income, the first association being dependent on the time of surgery. Women who did not undergo psychological counseling had greater body weight and greater weight recurrence. The importance of socioeconomic support in the postoperative period is highlighted, due to treatment costs, in addition to maintaining long-term follow-up with the multidisciplinary team.
