Resumo:
Lemongrass (Lippia alba) is widly used by popular medicine as a soothing, analgesic and spasmotic solution. Literature indicates at least three chemeotypes of the species: citral-myrcene, citral-limonene and carvone-limonene. Its identification is important for the right pharmacological use. This study aimed to review the literature contributions on the pharmacological properties of Lippia alba essential oil. This is a descriptive study of an integrative literature review, guided by the guiding question: “What are the main pharmacological activities of Lippia alba chemotypes?”. For this purpose, scientific publications indexed in the following online databases were searched: 1- Virtual Health Library – VHL (MEDLINE and LILACS), 2- Scientific Electronic Library Online – SciELO and 3- US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health ( PMC); As a filter, the time span from 2013 to 2023 was used, in order to provide a list of updated technical-scientific information in relation to the central theme of the integrative review; According to the results obtained, it is concluded that the chemotype of the species most used for pharmacological determination was citral; The most used study and the largest number of tests used in the experimental analyzes was in vitro; Although the articles have shown several other chemotypes, however, the most frequent in the study was citral; Due to its wide use as a medicinal herb, there is a great need for more studies regarding lippia alba and its chemotypes, mainly in the Brazilian Amazon.
