Resumo:
This paper describes the phenomenon of palatalization of the coronal consonants /t/ and /d/ in spoken Portuguese in a quilombola community in the municipality of Gurupá, in the state of Pará. It is a process that is quite extended in Brazilian Portuguese, as a whole, but still little studied in rural quilombola communities. It is considered a work with a quantitative approach, in which experience reports (interviews) were transcribed with 12 residents of the investigated community. The data obtained were coded considering groups of extralinguistic (social) and linguistic factors, after systematization and sorting of the data, they were submitted to computerized statistical processing in the Goldvarb X software, which generated frequencies and relative weights referring to the interference of linguistic factors and extralinguistics considered in the analysis. The occurrence of the phenomenon of palatalization is something present in Pará speech. Paraense speech stands out among the other Brazilian speeches for having as a rule the palatalization of these consonant segments, with a percentage above 90%, an average similar to the index found in the investigated community.
