The range medications range prescribed in the dental field is vast, making the global understanding of prescriptions and their influence on the patient's general health. Thus, the objective of this study is to assess the level of knowledge of students from public and private institutions, during and at the end of the graduation course. The research was cross-sectional and descriptive. Dentistry students from two educational institutions in the city of Belém-Pará who had recently completed the course of drug therapy and graduates who were in the last year/period of the Faculty of Dentistry were included in the study. After approval by the ethics committee and application of the informed consent, data were collected through a questionnaire with questions about general information from the participants and also related to: Pharmacology / Drug Therapy, current legislation regarding the practice of dental prescription and indication / common prescription and in special cases in the dental field. After statistical analysis of the data obtained, it was observed that in one of the institutions a large part of the interviewees had a poor (67%) or reasonable (28.9%) performance, while in the other evaluated institution this performance was statistically different with 44.2 % of participants with poor performance and 44.2% reasonable. The main deficiencies observed were in special prescriptions such as medical emergencies and fluoride prescriptions, where, respectively, only 7.8% and 13.3% of those evaluated had adequate knowledge. In view of the results found and limitations of the study, it is concluded that: the knowledge of dentistry students in the city of Belém-Pará is insufficient to carry out an adequate, safe and quality prescription, showing the need to readjust teaching-learning methodologies in drug therapy, including more sophisticated and dynamic approaches, with continuing education and constant theoretical-practical assessments throughout graduation. A terapêutica e as prescrições medicamentosas são pilares fundamentais da formação do Cirurgião-Dentista sendo elas estratégias utilizadas com o intuito de controlar, prevenir e/ou tratar doenças. A gama de medicamentos que podem ser prescritos no âmbito odontológico é vasta, tornando fundamental o entendimento sólido das prescrições e sua influência na saúde geral do paciente. Desta forma, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o nível de conhecimento de acadêmicos de odontologia de instituições de ensino da cidade de Belém, no âmbito da terapêutica e da prescrição medicamentosa, no decorrer e ao final do curso. A pesquisa foi transversal e descritiva do tipo inquérito. Foram incluídos no estudo acadêmicos de odontologia de duas instituições de ensino da cidade de Belém do Pará que responderam ao questionário referente aos conhecimentos de: farmacologia/terapêutica medicamentosa, legislação em vigor referente à prática de prescrição odontológica e indicação/prescrição comum e em casos especiais de medicamentos no âmbito odontológico. Como resultados acerca do nível de acerto dos acadêmicos, observou-se um desempenho ruim para 57,8% dos acadêmicos, nível razoável para 35,2%, nível bom para 7%, sendo que nenhum acadêmico apresentou nível excelente. Dentre os questionamentos realizados aos acadêmicos sobre terapêutica e prescrição medicamentosa, houve diferença entre as instuições avaliadas nos tópicos: substituição de prescrição por farmacêutico; fármacos associados ao metronidazol na terapia de periodontite agressiva; influência de anti-inflamatórios não esteroides (AINES) na hipertensão arterial e função renal; formas farmacêuticas de prescrição para crianças; e vasoconstritor não recomendado para gestantes. As principais deficiências no conhecimento dos acadêmicos, de ambas instituições avaliadas, foi nos quesitos: medicamentos de uso em emergências médicas, concentração de fluoretos de uso diário e em enxaguantes. Já com relação às maiores taxas de acertos, o desempenho foi melhor nos questionamentos sobre: substituição de prescrição por farmacêutico, formas farmacêuticas de prescrição para crianças e princípio ativo da marca comercial Periogard®. Com este estudo concluiu-se que o conhecimento dos acadêmicos de odontologia da cidade de Belém-Pará é insuficiente para realizar uma prescrição adequada, com segurança e de qualidade, mostrando necessidade de readequações das metodologias de ensino-aprendizagem na terapêutica medicamentosa, incluindo abordagens mais sofisticadas e dinâmicas, com educação continuada e avaliações teórico-práticas constantes ao longo da graduação. 2023-03-28T16:16:11Z 2023-03-28T16:16:11Z 2020-10-01 Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso - Graduação SANTANA, Adan Lucas Pantoja de.
