Monuments and historical buildings are representative of the transformation process and a testimony of human experience. However, the neglect of historical heritage is a problem that plagues historical areas nowadays. Casa Carvalhaes, a building located in the heart of the Historic Center of the city of Belém (PA) and dated of late 19th century, is an example of eclecticism and representative of a golden period, called Belle Époque. Although, in 2015, target of abandonment, the building suffered a fire and was partially destroyed, resting only parts of the original facades and fragments. Therefore, this work aims to develop an architectural project that considers the historical, urbanistic references and the remaining building, enabling a new compatible use, combining commercial services on the ground floor and a hostel on the upper pavements. The project was based on theoretical framework with the theories of conservation and restoration, characterization of the eclectic style, examples of tiled facades, hostel in historical contexts and buildings in situation of post-accident. In addition, was carried out an analysis of the object and surroundings, applicable legislation in the area and also a diagnosis with survey and mapping of damage of the facades. Thereby, the proposal for an architectural insertion of a contemporary building integrated with the original remains, with a harmonious dialogue between the old and the new, promotes the enhancement and maintain the vitality of the architectural heritage of the Historic Center. |
