Introduction: Celiac disease (CD) are autoimmune diseases caused by the interactions of
genetic and environmental factors. Treatment for disease is based on the dietary therapy,
with restriction of gluten, resulting in a decrease of the signs and symptoms. However,
permanent restriction may deteriorate the quality of life of celiacs. Objective: This study
aimed to evaluate the global quality of life of peoples with celiac disease. Methods: This
crosssectional, and quantitative study was performed with Patients older than 20 years were
included, with confirmed celiac disease and both genders. The sample was chosen by
convenience. Two questionnaire, with specific questions to assess the patient’s quality of life
and identification celiac was applied. The administration the questionnaire was online to a
sample of Brazilians celiac patients. The statistical analysis of the data was performed using
the R software. Spearman's correlation test was used to analyze the quality of life scores and
sociodemographic data. A p value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: A
total of 92 celiac adults were evaluated, 90 (97.8%) female, age was 20 a 67 years and with
average score 62,4 ± 14.67 (23 to 90 points) of quality of life. The quality of life was not
correlated with age, education level and nutritional status. Statistically significant difference
was found in the monthly income, proof patients higher income had better quality of life.
Conclusion: There was no association between quality of life and factors such education
level, age and nutritional status. The monthly income has positively influenced the quality of
life of celiac patients. |
