INTRODUCTION: Nutritional support is an essential part of the treatment of disabsorptive
disorders, being widely used to induce remission and prevent nutritional depletion. The choice
of the most appropriate enteral nutrition formula impacts not only on the improvement of the
clinical case, but also on success and adherence to treatment. Due to their high digestibility of
macronutrients, oligomeric formulas are indicated for the nutritional management of several
disorders that affect the body's absorptive capacity. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the use of
oligomeric formulas in patients with malabsorption disorders. METHODS: This is an
integrative literature review, carried out in the journal portals of the Virtual Health Library
(VHL) and pubmed, considering the periods from 2006 to 2023. The inclusion criteria were
studies that addressed the theme of oligomeric formulas and disabsorptive disorders, having
this as the main subject, in addition to articles available with free full text, in Portuguese,
English and Spanish. RESULTS: A total of 841 studies were initially located, of which 695
were excluded after applying the inclusion criteria. Subsequently, after reading the title and
abstracts, 36 studies were selected, 15 of which were excluded after analysis of the full text.
Finally, 12 studies that did not meet the research objectives were excluded. Thus, this research
included a final total of 9 articles. CONCLUSION: The studies gathered in this research
demonstrated the benefits of using semi-elemental formulas, manifesting themselves mainly in
the decrease in the incidence of diarrhea, improvement in gastrointestinal tolerance, nutritional
status, and improvement of the clinical picture in patients with acute pancreatitis and from
Crohn's. |
