Leptospirosis is an infectious disease transmitted mainly by the urine of animals, water
puddles or mud contaminated by leptospira bacteria. It is considered a public health issue in
Brazil and in several countries, due to the relationship with precarious sanitary aspects in
urban regions, caused by lack of maintenance, investment in sanitation, urbanization, mainly
for the poorest layer of society. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the
epidemiological characteristics of cases of human leptospirosis that occurred in the State of
Pará in the period from 2007 to 2017. Statistical analyzes were used: prevalence rate,
hypothesis test and significance, as well as the test Pearson's chi-square, performed using
Excel software. Among the variables analyzed in this study and the methodology used,
considering the exposed (notified) population, we can state that the epidemiological profile of
leptospirosis in the state of Pará during the period studied is characterized by a higher
prevalence of the appearance of the first symptoms in the 1st semester of the year (21.29%);
being predominant in males (25.92%), aged between 50 and 59 years (25.39%), people with
complete or incomplete primary education (22.06%), people with contact with a place with
rodent signs presents (34.88%), in the likely environment of infection at work (96.96%).
Thus, it is possible to consider the analyzes generated by the work as an important tool for
planning and managing information on the epidemiological situation in the State of Pará. |
