This research comprises the context of diplomatic tensions generated by border demarcations in the captaincy of Rio Negro in the period from 1780 to 1808. The present work aims to analyze river trade as an important element in the process of conquest of the Amazon River valley and its tributaries. This is due to the fact that knowledge of the waterways was important for the protection of the captaincy, the corrections of the border demarcations, which used rivers as a reference and it is through these river paths that the products that supply the villages circulate and military regiments. Thus, travelers' reports and codices from the Public Archive of the State of Pará were used, which consist of letters from political and military authorities about the defense of the borders and the establishment of Lusitanian rule in the captaincy. |
