And to fuel this study fieldwork seeking enrollment in locus, through interviews, field reports, analyzes of reality, photographs, among others was developed. Abaetetuba enjoyed a period of great economic importance for Tocantina region, becoming the leading exporter of rum. This product was in the twentieth century, the main base of the economic County and contributed to the development in the period. This study aims to research this golden period and the factors that led to the decline of the main product of abaetetubense-based economy. A referida pesquisa busca-se desenvolver estudo sobre o auge e declínio dos engenhos no Município de Abaetetuba no Estado do Pará. Tomando como objeto da mesma, o único engenho remanescente do período áureo da aguardente no Município – Engenho Pacheco - visto que nas décadas 40 e 50, havia cerca de 60 (sessenta) deles. E para fomentar este estudo foi desenvolvida a pesquisa de campo que busca o registro em lócus, por meio de entrevistas, relatórios de campo, análises da realidade, fotografias, entre outros. Abaetetuba viveu um período economicamente de grande importância para a região tocantina, tornando-se principal exportadora de cachaça. Este produto foi, no século XX, a principal base da econômica do Município e que contribuiu para o desenvolvimento no referido período.
