The aim of this paper is to make a historical and anthropological analysis of São José do Carrazedo Community and its foundation process on Gurrupá city, Pará state, to understand the increasing of ethnic identity process through the analysis of its titration as a remaining quilombola community. The methodology applied was the partaking observation and oral history documental analysis. This research showed us that the area has passed to multiples reoccupations: a precolonial one, demonstrated by the archaeological traces founded in the respective community place, a colonial one, recorded on historical documents of eighth century and a current one reported by the older community habitants. This research allowed me to realize the importance of struggling for legal rights by the community residents, my own origins, culture, ancestry and, the last but not least, to value and respect my ethnic identity as a community member.
