Population growth and consumption of processed and disposable products increased the amount and diversity of solid waste. The importance of sensitizing the human being so that they, act responsibly and consciously is evident, maintaining a healthy environment for this and other generations. This paper presents the results of a survey that aimed to know the concept of science teachers working in the final years of primary education on recycling; verify that science teachers address the topic recycling in the classroom; identify actions developed by science teachers related to recycling and; know the importance that science teachers attach to recycling. To achieve these goals we conducted a qualitative research and as data collection instrument used a questionnaire. The study subjects were seven teachers who teach science classes in the last years of primary school, ie from 6 to 9 years in public schools in the city of Portel, Pará. The data were analyzed using the principles of analysis content. Through research, we found that the surveyed teachers, worked on this issue in the classroom, and each has a way to do this, what was also clear is that even being a subject that is routinely treated in TV many teachers do not have the total control of the real meaning of the term recycling, assigning it the definition of reuse. This demonstrates the urgent need for investment and ongoing training for teachers. Only in this way, promoting changes in behavior and values in our students will be possible. A relação entre o homem e a natureza ultrapassou os limites da sobrevivência. O crescimento populacional e o consumo de produtos industrializados e descartáveis aumentou a quantidade e a diversidade dos resíduos sólidos. Fica evidente a importância de sensibilizar o ser humano para que estes, ajam de modo responsável e consciente, conservando o meio ambiente saudável para esta e as demais gerações. Este trabalho apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa que teve como objetivos conhecer a concepção de professores de Ciências que atuam nos anos finais do ensino fundamental sobre reciclagem; verificar se os professores de Ciências abordam o tema reciclagem em sala de aula; identificar ações desenvolvidas pelos professores de Ciências relacionadas à reciclagem e; conhecer a importância que os professores de Ciências atribuem à reciclagem. Para alcançar esses objetivos realizamos uma pesquisa qualitativa e como instrumento de coleta de dados utilizamos um questionário. Os sujeitos da pesquisa foram sete professores que ministram aulas de ciência nos últimos anos do ensino fundamental, ou seja, de 6º a 9º ano em escolas públicas do município de Portel, Pará. Os dados foram analisados utilizando os princípios da análise de conteúdo. Com a pesquisa, observamos que os professores consultados, trabalham este tema em sala de aula, e que cada um, possui uma maneira de fazer isso, o que ficou claro também, é que mesmo sendo um assunto que rotineiramente é tratado na televisão, muitos professores não têm o total domínio do real significado do termo reciclagem, atribuindo a ela a definição de reutilização. Isso demonstra a urgente necessidade de investimentos e capacitação contínua para os professores.
