Resumo:
Dams are structures designed to store waste and it is necessary to prevent environmental damage. However, any failure brings immeasurable damage to the population, the economy and the environment. It is indispensable to maintain the structural and operational integrity of the dams and for that it is necessary to know the constructive characteristics, instrumentation plans, and thus the identification of events and dealings; that there is a good practice of visual inspections to maintain the safety conditions of the structure. These points are summarized in dam safety management, in which a continuous geotechnical monitoring program is essential, visual inspection by a qualified engineer, and an external audit by a company specialized in dam safety. Conventionally, monitoring in Brazil is carried out by manual reading instruments, wich is very susceptible to human error or providing a delayed interpretation of the real conditions of behavior and stability of the structure. This work aims to compare the main geotechnical instruments and their relationships with greater efficiency in monitoring and data control. As a result, direct relationships between variables were obtained, as well as recommendations for more effective monitoring using technologies, an alternative for automation in security management and decision making.
