For its development, initially, a bibliographic review was carried out on the types of transformers, maintenance and, more specifically, the methods for interpreting insulating oil analysis (DGA – dissolved gases analysus). Based on this, two case studies were presented. Real cases of transformer failure were addressed, in which they used oil analysis, more precisely, the concentration of dissolved gases, to determine the diagnosis, as well as an analysis of costs and production losses related to each case. The first case concerns a 6MVA transformer that was replaced due to internal deterioration caused by the accumulation of gases, which generated overheating of the active part of the transformer and damaged it, leaving the equipment inoperative. In the second case, the study presents a 75MVA transformer that unexpectedly failed with a high acetylene level. In this scenario, it was not turned on again before carrying out diagnostics to identify the possible defect, which revealed the loss of the equipment. For each case, the results of oil analyzes were used, that is, the concentration of combustible gases, to determine the cause of the failure, with the aid of the most used methods in the industry. Furthermore, for each situation, the cost involved was estimated, considering material damage and loss of production, highlighting the benefit of good planning and execution of maintenance on transformers. O objetivo deste trabalho demonstrar os benefícios da manutenção preditiva, em especial a analise de óleo isolante de transformadores de potencia, para a prevenção de perdas e danos materiais de uma indústria siderúrgica. Para seu desenvolvimento, inicialmente, foi realizada revisão bibliográfica dos tipos de transformadores, manutenção e, mais especificamente, os métodos para interpretação de analise de óleo isolante. Com base nisso, foram apresentados dois estudos de caso. Foram abordados casos reais de falha em transformadores, em que utilizaram a analise de óleo, mais precisamente, a concentração de gases dissolvidos, para determinar o diagnostico, bem como uma analise de custos e perdas de produção relacionadas a cada caso. O primeiro caso se trata de um transformador de 6MVA que foi substituído devido a deterioração interna causada pelo acumulo de gases, que gerou um superaquecimento da parte ativa do transformador e a danificou, deixando o equipamento inoperante. No segundo caso, o estudo apresenta um transformador de 75MVA que falhou inesperada- mente com nível de acetileno elevado. Nesse cenário, ele não foi religado antes da realização de diagnósticos para identificar o possível defeito, que revelou a perda do equipamento. Para cada um dos casos, utilizou-se os resultados de analises de óleo, ou seja, a concentração de gases combustíveis, para determinar a causa da avaria, com auxílio dos métodos mais utilizados na indústria.
