Highways play a crucial role in the Brazilian road system, being directly associated with the
country's socioeconomic growth. To ensure comfort and efficiency in transportation, it is
essential to maintain their service conditions adequately. In this context, the Pavement
Management System (PMS) stands out as an indispensable tool, enabling assertive decision-
making based on objective data. This study aimed to determine the Global Severity Index (IGG)
of the PA-252 and PA-151 highways, part of the Abaetetuba-Belém route via the Arapari port.
The research involved on-site inspections in three sections, using the IGG/DNIT method to
assess pavement conditions in each segment. The results showed an average IGG of 142.01 for
the highways, classifying the pavement as poor. The most critical section recorded an IGG of
210.46, rated as very poor, while the best section had an IGG of 94.2, still classified as poor.
The main defects identified included wear (64.67%), patches (35.33%), short transverse cracks
(35.33%), and short longitudinal cracks (33.33%). Based on the analyses, solutions were
proposed for asphalt surface maintenance and restoration, ranging from crack sealing to
complete rehabilitation with deep milling, aiming to improve road network conditions. Thus,
the study highlights the importance of IGG in planning interventions that extend highway
lifespan and promote regional development. |
