Resumo:
This work presents the modernization of a transfer chute used in bauxite transportation, aiming to reduce issues such as excessive wear, misalignment of material flow, and frequent corrective maintenance. For this purpose, experimental tests were performed to obtain simulation parameters, including granulometry, angle of repose, and material-wall friction, whose results were used to calibrate a numerical model developed using the Discrete Element Method (DEM). The simulation identified critical points in the current design and proposed solutions, such as geometric modifications to the chute and including deflectors. The results demonstrated improvements, including a 6.1% reduction in normal stresses applied to the conveyor belt, a 23.3% reduction in shear stresses, and a reduction in belt misalignment from 15.9% to 1.1% with the inclusion of the deflector, as well as proper alignment of material flow. It is concluded that DEM simulation is an effective tool for optimizing equipment and providing operational and economic gains for the mining industry.
