The activity of serra (Scomberomorus brasiliensis) large-scale fisheries was analyzed through
data landings at the Bacuriteua and Bragança ports in Caeté estuary from june/00 to jun/01.
Data were collected with a questionnaires applied to fishermen in Bragança region. The data
were treated statistically by parametric or non-parametric analysis of variance, depending of
the assumptions of normality and homoscedasticity. Plots of production were constructed to
distinguish the spatial and temporal catches at the Brasil north coast. 91 large-scale fisherie
boats were recorded, with 31 medium-sized bots and just one industrial, the first one, being a
major feet at the activity of fisheries of serra. There were 102 landings on the ports of Caeté
River, most in Bacuriteua port, due to its better infrastructure and the privileged geographical
location. The Industrial boats had averages of 12 m in length, 17 days of trip, carry 8
fishermen and capacity of 10 t and held just 7 landings at the period. The best structure of
industrial vessels (hull steel, large propulsion and greater capacity to carry on fish) gives large
autonomy for this type of boat. Medium-sized boats made 95 landings, with average travel of
11 days, 6 fishermen 12.15 m oh length and capacity of 7.55 t to carry fish. The predominant
fisheries gear was tha “malhadeira”, a type of net. Total production was 229,039 kilograms,
and the average CPUE was 35.7, up from 116.23 and less than 1.43. The total revenue was R$
229,204.86, with 89% referring to the rainy season. The average price was R $1.63, ranging
between R$ 1.50 and R$ 1.80. The catches were very well distributed along the coast durins
the rainy season, focusing on the coast of Amapá and Pará States, and a small concentration
on Maranhão State. In the dry season, the capture has focused on the coast of Amapá, Pará
and at Amazonas mounth. The period of higuer production coincides with the rainy season.
And the period with lower captures with the dry period. Both in the dry and rainy seasons the
fisheries activity of serra was more productive on the coast of Amapá State. |
