Two Piston core type samples were analyzed, obtaining data of carbonate, organic matter, granulometric parameters, and stratigraphic profiles. The results showed that the silt fraction dominated by silt fraction (69% in T61 and 89% in T62), with lower values of clay (23% in T61 and 10% in T62) and sand (8% in T61 and 6% in the T62 titer). The carbonate values presented a mean of 30% in the T61 titer, and 6% in the T62 titer. The levels of carbonate and mud made it possible to obtain three different facies. The analysis made it possible to infer that the sediments from the Pará-Maranhão continental slope were submitted to relatively high hydrodynamics of continental origin. Those sediments might have come from both the Amazon basin as well as from the adjacent rivers. O trabalho objetiva analisar as principais características dos sedimentos do talude continental superior, no limite dos estados do Pará e Maranhão. Foram analisados dois testemunhos do tipo piston corer, obtendo-se dados de teores de carbonato, de matéria orgânica, parâmetros granulométricos, além de perfis estratigráficos. Os resultados mostram sedimentos lamosos, dominados pela fração silte (69% no testemunho T61 e 89% no testemunho T62), com menores valores de argila (23% no testemunho T61 e 10% no testemunho T62) e areia (8% no testemunho T61 e 6% no testemunho T62). Os valores de carbonato apresentaram média de 30% no testemunho T61, e 6% no testemunho T62. Já teores de matéria orgânica variaram de 0% a 90% no T61 e de 1% a 40% no T62. Os teores de carbonato e lama possibilitaram a obtenção de três fácies distintas.
