At one first moment the word indexing is seen in Archivology by Schellenberg, (1980) on XIX and XX centuries as a process witch has as base the cataloguing, which comes from Tematic Treatment of Information (TTI), at a second moment with automation in 80’s decade, it pass to be understood as a process related to description of the archive document presented by International Autority Archival Register Standard International Standard Archival Authority Record for Corporate Bodies, Persons, and Families- ISAAR (CPF), which exposes some elements/characters who must be observed when extracting the word from the docmment for it’s representation. However, the Norm ISAAR (CPF) only directs the Archiver on representartion of information, not presenting methods that could help in it’s analysis, by the way, keeps the necessity of the discussion about the methods of TTI in Archivology. De modo a discorrer sobre as acepções teóricas e práticas do termo Indexação na Arquivologia, buscou-se investigar as relações conceituais que essa apresenta para com área em questão. Em primeiro momento o termo indexação é apontado na Arquivologia por Schellenberg (1980) no século XIX e XX como um processo que tem como base a Catalogação, que advém do Tratamento Temático da Informação (TTI), já em um segundo momento com automação na década de 1980 essa passa a ser entendida como um processo relacionado a descrição do documento de arquivo apresentado pela Norma Internacional de Registro de Autoridade Arquivística para Entidades Coletivas, Pessoas e Famílias – ISAAR (CPF) que expõe alguns elementos/caracteres que devem ser observado ao extrair o termo do documento para sua representação. Contudo, a norma ISAAR (CPF) apenas direciona o Arquivista na representação da informação, não apresentando métodos que pudessem auxiliar esse em sua análise, sendo assim, deixa a necessidade das discussões dos métodos do TTI na Arquivologia.
