Resumo:
Cutlery is the ancient art of making cutting blades. The knife is one of the oldest instruments used by man. One of the essential pieces of equipment in cutlery is the forge. The literature is scarce in defining the necessary parameters for the construction of an efficient forge. In this context, this work aims to design and build a gas forge for the production of blades up to 250 millimeters in length. For the development, this work was divided into three stages: the design of the structure, the choice of the most appropriate thermal insulator and the choice of the burner, considering the use of accessible materials to reduce the cost and justifying the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as fuel. As a result, a gas forge was obtained with an average working temperature of 1200°C, with good cost-effectiveness compared to conventional forges.
