Glanders is a highly contagious, occupational zoonosis and often fatal. The affected
species, horses, donkeys and mules, is one of the oldest diseases of equines. Its
etiologic agent Burkholderia mallei, a gram-negative, immobile, intracellular bacillus.
The three main routes of digestive infection, skin and breathing, with acute or chronic
clinical symptoms. Clinical signs are cough, more purulent nose, fever and common
fevers in the neck region. For the diagnosis of glanders, an enzyme-linked
immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is used as a screening method, which detects enzyme-
linked immunosorbent in the initial phase. If positive in the ELISA test, the Western
blotting (WB) confirmation test is mandatory. The treatment of infected or suspected
animals is prohibited. As a form of control and prophylaxis should be. the focus
property was interdicted and the positive animal euthanized. According to the Ministry
of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) Brazil is almost registered in its first
case999 and is in all regions of the country and is in almost all the states with exception.
The present work aims to describe a literature review on glanders in Brazil and in the
State of Amazonas. |
