Glanders is a highly contagious, occupational zoonosis and often fatal. The affected species, horses, donkeys and mules, is one of the oldest diseases of equines. Its etiologic agent Burkholderia mallei, a gram-negative, immobile, intracellular bacillus. The three main routes of digestive infection, skin and breathing, with acute or chronic clinical symptoms. Clinical signs are cough, more purulent nose, fever and common fevers in the neck region. For the diagnosis of glanders, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is used as a screening method, which detects enzyme- linked immunosorbent in the initial phase. If positive in the ELISA test, the Western blotting (WB) confirmation test is mandatory. The treatment of infected or suspected animals is prohibited. As a form of control and prophylaxis should be. the focus property was interdicted and the positive animal euthanized. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) Brazil is almost registered in its first case999 and is in all regions of the country and is in almost all the states with exception. The present work aims to describe a literature review on glanders in Brazil and in the State of Amazonas.
