ABSTRACT
This paper reports an experience executed in Nova Esperança community located on ramal-08, km 08 of Brasileirinho Road. The title of the project was: Community garden as spreader Lócus of agroecological knowledge. The objective of this study was to develop in the community activities focused on agroecological practices by the construction of a community garden for vegetable production. The activities included workshops in order to make out a socioeconomic diagnosis. We used tools of participatory methods, such as Cognitive Mapping, Venn Diagram, Seasonal calendar and SWOT analysis. The research pointed out several factors that affect the community's social life such as difficulties related to health and income. The garden is called Erapakatupa and it contributes to demonstrate possibilities and simple solutions that can be adopted in practices of food production in urban area. The challenge was to show the importance of collective work and the participation of the community people in monitoring and garden maintenance. So, the project added to the community organization empowerment and social awakening to adoption of agricultural simple practices in food production. This work also contributed to the interdisciplinary training of the academic students of IFAM-CMZL who participated in the actions; thus, they could live mutual experiences and learn with the indigenous Kokama farmers.
