Flood forests in the Amazon, permanently flooded areas or
seasonally due to the flood pulse or the flood and drought process
of the great rivers, cover about 30% of the Amazon region, or approximately
1.7 million square kilometers. Consequently, understand how the
species are distributed and how they respond to the flood pulse is
fundamental to understanding how ecosystem processes affect the
diversity in the Amazon forests as a whole. The purpose of this work is
understand how the richness, abundance and composition of arboreal ants and
that live in shrubs are modified by the flood pulse of the Juruá River to the
during a hydrological cycle. The ants were collected in the Reserva de
Sustainable Development (RDS) Uacari and the Extractive Reserve (RESEX)
Middle Juruá, in terra firme area and floodplain area. The collection of ants was
based on the use of tree traps and the tapping of understory vegetation.
The samples are in the Animal Biology Laboratory of the Federal University of
Amazons, being sorted and quantified. So far, the collections carried out in the
drought (September/2014) have already been cleaned and during the flood (March/2015) they have already been sorted and
counted; resulting in approximately 3,365 ants. The next step will be to
identification of all species. |
