Resumo:
This research checked the effectiveness of the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (DLTD) at the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA) in the period 2010-2012, by updating the content and the use of this tool by postgraduate program students of the Institute. From exploratory and descriptive nature, this investigation was divided into two steps: updating and analysis of the DLTD, as well as its use by individuals. The gathering of documentary data was based on the indicator notebooks Postgraduate Memory, which annually record theses and dissertations defended in Universities that offer postgraduate courses evaluated by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES); data collected from the field survey took place through the application of an electronic questionnaire via Google Drive, with open and closed questions. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of data was done by using simple statistical techniques and content analysis. Results showed that 42.51% of theses and dissertations at the Institute during the study period are effectively published, revealing outdated status of DLTD maintained by the agency. The using study showed that most students use the DLTD, though they rarely or eventually find the desired material, either because of outdated tool or by proven disability of its retrieval system of information. Finally, it was concluded that the DLTD of INPA is ineffective as to the dissemination of scientific production of the postgraduate programs of the Institute, since the outdated content and the disability of the survey and retrieval process of information pointed out by the service users.
