The leaves were collected at Km 18 of the AM-010 road and the essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation of the fresh material in a clevenger apparatus. The oils obtained from six extractions, which presented variations in their yield, were evaluated. The highest yield was obtained during the rainy season (0,20%) and the smallest during the dry season (0,11%), evidencing this way that the essential oils content of this plant is affected by variations in parameters such as temperature and pluvimetric index. The major compounds identified were: δ-3-Carene (14,87%) and trans-β-ocimene (10,92%) for the sample collected in august 2018. For the sample collected in december 2018, δ-3-Carene (10,52%) were identified and, trans-β-ocimene (9,96%), as major constituents. The oil was effective active against strains of Trypanosoma cruzi. A espécie Piper marginatum pertence à Família Piperaceae e está entre as mais estudadas do gênero Piper por suas diversas aplicações na medicina popular tais como tônica, carminativa e antiespasmódica. Este trabalho tem por objetivo avaliar rendimento, composição química e atividade tripanocida do óleo essencial das folhas de Piper marginatum. As folhas foram coletadas no Km 18 da estrada AM-010 e os óleos essenciais foram obtidos por hidrodestilação do material fresco em aparelho de Clevenger. Foram avaliados os óleos obtidos de seis extrações, que apresentaram variações em seu rendimento. O maior rendimento foi obtido durante o período chuvoso (0,20%) e o menor durante o período de seca (0,11%), evidenciando-se desta forma que o teor dos óleos essenciais desta planta é afetado por variações de parâmetros como a temperatura e índice pluviométrico. Os compostos majoritários identificados foram: δ-3-Careno (14,87%) e trans-β-ocimeno (10,92%) para a amostra coletada em agosto de 2018. Para a amostra coletada em dezembro de 2018 foram identificados δ-3-Careno (10,52%) e trans-β-ocimeno (9,96%) como constituintes majoritários.
