After weed interference is established on crops, the effects are irreversible, with no recovery in development and productivity even after removing the stress caused by the presence of weeds. This work aimed to gather information about the periods of weed interference in agricultural crops. The present work is a descriptive literature review that was carried out from research in national and international scientific articles, books, theses and dissertations of higher education in Portuguese and English that were published between the years 2011 and 2021, and publications prior to this period. All researched material was read and then selected according to their relevance to this review. Weeds compete directly with agricultural crops for common resources such as water, light, nutrients, space and the interference of these species in crops occurs in three periods; total period of interference prevention (PTPI), period before interference (PAI) and critical period of interference prevention (PCPI). Furthermore, these periods of weed interference in crops vary from region to region, vary between different agricultural crops and between cultivars of the same agricultural crop. As plantas daninhas se beneficiam no processo de competição com as plantas cultivadas por apresentarem alta rusticidade, resistência a pragas e doenças e elevada produção de sementes viáveis. Depois que a interferência das plantas daninhas se estabelece sobre as culturas, os efeitos são irreversíveis, não havendo recuperação do desenvolvimento e da produtividade mesmo após a retirada do estresse causado pela presença das infestantes. Este trabalho teve como objetivo reunir informações acerca dos períodos de interferência das plantas daninhas em culturas agrícolas. O presente trabalho é uma revisão de literatura do tipo descritiva que foi realizada a partir de pesquisas em artigos científicos nacionais, internacionais, livros, teses e dissertações de ensino superior nos idiomas português e inglês que foram publicados entre os anos de 2011 e 2021, e publicações anteriores a este período. Todo material pesquisado foi lido e depois selecionados de acordo com sua relevância para esta revisão. As plantas daninhas competem diretamente com as culturas agrícolas por recursos comuns como água, luz, nutrientes, espaço e a interferência destas espécies nas culturas ocorre em três períodos; período total de prevenção à interferência (PTPI), período anterior à interferência (PAI) e período crítico de prevenção à interferência (PCPI).
