For this, after establishing the limits of possible research on the historical Socrates, we proceed to compare the content of the Platonic passages with allusions by Xenophon and Aristophanes to the Socratic custom (ethos) in question. Then, in the theoretical reference selected as a study base, the main theses about the Socratic practice are analyzed, with emphasis on those that deal with "spiritual exercise", "trance" or "ecstasy", among others. Examining some ancient practices that may, or may not, have had an influence on Socrates' ethos. Finally, the interpretative position reached is presented, with the hypothesis of a "pre-platonic contemplation". O presente trabalho tem como objetivo investigar o exercício de concentração do noûs (synnoésis) de Sócrates, um “estado meditativo” descrito por Platão no Symposium “174 d- 175 d” e “220 c-d”. Para isso, após estabelecer os limites da pesquisa possível sobre o Sócrates histórico, procede-se ao cotejamento do teor das passagens platônicas com alusões de Xenofonte e Aristófanes ao costume (éthos) socrático em questão. Em seguida, no referencial teórico selecionado como base de estudos, são analisadas as principais teses acerca da prática socrática, com destaque para as que versam sobre “exercício espiritual”, “transe” ou “êxtase”, entre outras. Examinando algumas práticas antigas que podem, ou não, terem exercido influência sobre o referido éthos de Sócrates.
