Resumo:
Background: Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease characterized by the presence of functional endometrial tissue similar to the endometrium that grows outside the uterine cavity, causing chronic pelvic pain, reducing quality of life. Aim: To characterize TENS interventions used to control pain and improve quality of life in women with endometriosis. Methods: This is a narrative review of the literature, and the SANRA was followed. Studies carried out in women with endometriosis (≥ 18 years) who used TENS as an intervention and who evaluated pain and/or quality of life were considered. All languages were considered. The sources of information considered were CINAHL, EMBASE, Google Scholar, LILACS, MEDLINE, PEDro, Web of Science, Cybertesis, NDLTD (via Global ETD Search), OATD, Clinical trials and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, from baseline to May 2022. Results: Three studies were selected from a total of 246 records found, with a combined sample of 165 participants with endometriosis. The articles used conventional TENS, acupuncture TENS and burst TENS. Conclusion: Interventions with TENS present the lumbosacral region as the application site, frequency from 2 to 85 Hz, intensity adjusted to a threshold tolerable by the patient at the sensitive level, pulse duration from ~75μs to ~260μs, in continuous mode lasting from 20 to 30 minutes per session, these parameters provided significant results for women with deep endometriosis, since, in addition to increasing pain tolerance in the first sessions and consequently improve the quality of life.
