The Northern Region of Brazil stands out for the large proportion of water available for its varied uses. Although the issue of water availability in the Region prevails in quantity, factors such as the high degree of urbanization, together with the lack of basic sanitation, industrial development and increased agricultural production may contribute to the quality of these waters not being adequately adequate to meet the needs of living beings. In view of the above, the present study aimed to evaluate the water quality of the Caititu River, in the municipality of Lábrea-AM, applying the calculation of the water quality index (AQI), adapted by the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo-CETESB. The methodological process consisted of the sampling of 4 points along the river, carried out in June 2022, corresponding to the dry period of the region. The physical (Temperature, Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids), chemical (Dissolved Oxygen, BOD, Total Phosphorus, Total Nitrogen, pH) and microbiological (Thermotolerant Coliforms) parameters were analyzed for the application of the Water Quality Index (AQI) and comparison with the limits recommended by CONAMA Resolution No. 357/05. Conductivity and Total Coliforms were also analyzed for characterization purposes. The results obtained show interference for the parameters dissolved oxygen in point P3, with a value lower than that established by the current Resolution and for the total phosphorus, with values higher than that allowed in all sample points. The values of the AQIS were consistent with the indications analyzed during the research representing well the waters of the Caititu River, with a good classification range for all points. These indices reflect the self-purification capacity of pollutants that the Caititu River exerts during the dry period. |
