This work aims to highlight the impacts and recovery of Brazilian retail during the pre, during
and post COVID-19 pandemic, which directly affected thousands of people, impacting trade in
all regions of Brazil, and small and medium businesses were forced to close their activities,
shortly after the 2018 recovery in which the sector showed significant improvement. In order
to contextualize the development of retail, before the crisis, during and the recovery of retail in
the second half of 2021, this research is based on bibliographical research supported by
scientific articles, journals and internet repositories, focusing on the growth of retail in Brazil,
as well as the interpretation of data recorded by Cielo, publications dedicated to the retail
sector and the economy during the COVID-19 period. The commerce sectors showed a
significant improvement in the years 2018 and 2019, after the crisis, the fall during the
pandemic in the first and second half of 2020 until mid-2021, causing job losses, decrease in
income sources, and impacts on inflation. Analyzing the recovery of the sector, with some
limitations, as well as the inclusion of new sales channels, online commerce gained more
space and today, although local sales have suffered from the pandemic, retail has shown itself
to adapt to this condition, through digital market sales, e-commerce gained more space,
although physical stores could not operate, specific sectors presented growth, especially those
related to pharmacy and delivery in general. |
