Timeless, music has been present in our everyday life since the beginning of our existence, surrounding our intersubjective relationships and beliefs. Different senses and meanings are attributed to it, which are closely linked to processes of subjectivation, self-care, and identity formation. Crossing borders and cultures, it is also involved in various indigenous practices that are important for cultural preservation and community empowerment. Therefore, the objective of this research was to comprehend the senses attributed to music in the life paths of young indigenous university students living in the city of Manaus. Narrative interviews were conducted with two participants, one from the Tikuna ethnicity and another from the Baniwa ethnicity, and analysis categories were developed, which were comprehended by cultural-historical psychology. The analysis categories were: a way of remembering; I want to find myself in the indigenous; interculturality; musical instruments; music as meaning for living; and the music were for strengthening. Music in their life paths played an important role in identity formation, in a sense of belonging and in the connection with their cultures, and also evoked emotional memories of family and friends. Lastly, it is recommended that further research be conducted to comprehend the dimension of music in the lives of young indigenous university students, particularly in terms of overcoming adversities, promoting well-living, and in political struggles. |
