Access to quality basic sanitation in rural communities is a common challenge in various regions of Brazil, particularly regarding water supply services. Factors such as geographic dispersion, isolation, financial limitations, absence of public policies, and insufficient involvement of public and community managers hinder the provision of water services. This study addresses the reality of collective water supply systems in two district headquarters of the Tupé Sustainable Development Reserve (REDES): São João and Julião, located in the rural area of Manaus, Amazonas. The aim is to characterize and diagnose the collective systems and their users, as well as to propose improvements that can contribute to the management of these physical infrastructures. River trips were made to these communities for data collection and interaction with community leaders. This participatory process resulted in the characterization and diagnosis of two main collective systems, referred to as São João 2 and Julião 1 systems, for which management and water supply infrastructure improvement proposals were studied and developed for these populations. |
