The amazon rainforest constitutes a biome of paramount importance to maintain the balance of ecological functions. However, the increase in deforestation in this region has been worrying, and the agrarian reform settlements are configured as drivers for this advance. Thus, it is pertinent to evaluate the dynamics of land use and occupation and its relationship with deforestation in these places, for this the Geographic Information System (GIS), remote sensing data and geoprocessing techniques are configured as powerful instruments that allow to evaluate this
dynamics. In this context, this work aims to evaluate the dynamics of land use and occupation between the years 1986 to 2021 in the Monte Settlement, located in southern Amazonas, and its influence on deforestation in its surroundings. Data on land use and occupation from MapBiomas were used, as well as socioeconomic and spatial data from institutional bodies, both processed using the QGIS software. The results obtained showed that, in the evaluated period, deforestation initially took place in the settlement's zone of influence, and that between the years 2002 to 2004, the highest rates were observed in the settlement area and its surroundings, and these areas were converted mainly on pasture, which confirms the exponential growth of the cattle herd in the region. Therefore, there is a need for more effective measures to monitor settlements, guaranteeing better living conditions for settlers, aiming to reduce deforestation and providing subsidies so that settlements can better use the environment. |
