This work addresses the use of handicraft techniques combined with semiotics to value local aesthetics and culture, aiming to create a line of products that rescue the cultural value of traditional basketry techniques from ancestral Amazonian culture. This is an applied research, with a qualitative approach, and also, in terms of objectives, an exploratory and descriptive research, aiming to create familiarity with a theme and describe it. As for the procedures, it is a bibliographical research, which uses already published materials, and a case study. Therefore, 3 functional-decorative products were created using Baniwa basketry techniques, made of arumã fiber combined with other materials, and using semiotics to formally represent Manaus’ touristic attractions, verifying the possibility of union between handicraft and design for the confection of modern products that dialogue with local culture’s aesthetics. |
