Resumo:
Ballet is an art form that has fascinated people around the world for centuries. In this way, the growing interest and appreciation for this dance style has triggered an increase in the demand for scientific research in this area, which seeks to explore its technical, creative and cultural aspects. The analysis of large volumes of scientific production, widely used in Information Science, has grown significantly, especially in the last two decades, as a result of the growth in the use of databases that index large numbers of articles in a structured way. In view of this, scientometric studies are concerned with statistically studying the production and publication of research in scientific journals. Furthermore, this analysis technique has a close relationship with several areas of knowledge and can be applied in different contexts to evaluate and measure scientific production. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze, based on scientometric studies, the characteristics of the production of scientific articles indexed in the Scopus database on ballet, developed by or with the partnership of authors with Brazilian affiliation in the period 2014-2022. This study seeks to present the methodological course of empirical research, basic classification and quantitative approach, which are proposed by scientometrics. This is a descriptive and exploratory study in terms of objectives. As for the objectives, this is a descriptive and exploratory study. The survey results showed that scientific studies have been developed mainly in the fields of Sports Medicine, Physiotherapy, Physical Education and other Sports Sciences. Thus, it is observed that the desire to promote health and well-being has driven the production of scientific research in this area. Finally, scientometric studies identified an emerging trend in research on the topic of sexuality. In the context of ballet, where grace, emotional expression and delicacy are valued, male dancers can be stigmatized and subject to challenges regarding their sexuality.
