Introduction: The study of the history of republicanism in Amazonas presents challenges in terms of exploring new ways of understanding republican militancy. Republican militancy has been studied through the clubs that emerged during the last two years of the Empire, meaning that much of what had previously been explored by the republicans was not exposed, and when exposed, was considered irrelevant. Objectives: Assess the presence of republican propaganda and forms of action and activism in the years prior to the proclamation of the republic, highlighting atypical activities and incipient forms of organization. Method: Qualitative, quantitative and descriptive analysis of sources, mainly newspaper sources, using key words such as “republicanism”, “republic”, “democracy”, “abolitionism”, research into profiles of active subjects and also the consultation of historiographical production about the period. The main research platform was the national library's digital newspaper library, due to the fact that source research began at the time of the covid19 pandemic. Results: Observe the active role of republicans in the Province's politics, the organization of republican clubs in early periods of republican activity in the country, the presence of strong rhetoric in the Province's legislative assembly in defense of republicanism. Conclusions: the research demonstrated that republican activity in the city of Manaus is older than traditional historiography claims to be, with republican organizations active since the 1870s and a very strong movement in the early 1880s.
