Resumo:
The research analyzes the potential and limitations of community-based tourism in the São Paulo da Valéria Community, located in Parintins, Amazonas State, Brazil. It identifies key aspects in the literature, commercial business models, and the local context. This descriptive and analytical case study employs a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews and on-site observations. Data were analyzed using Bardin’s content analysis technique. The findings reveal that tourism is a significant source of income and cultural appreciation, with activities such as handicrafts, ceramics, and canoe tours standing out. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of organization, limited foreign language skills, and unsustainable practices hinder its full development. While residents show great potential for leadership, they lack public support and structured initiatives to promote sustainable tourism. The study concludes that community-based tourism in the region presents an opportunity for socioeconomic and environmental development. However, its success depends on inclusive public policies, strategic planning, and the preservation of natural resources. This work aims to pave the way for future research on tourism and cultural practices in the Amazon.
