A desflorestação, a exploração dos recursos naturais, as alterações climáticas, a erosão cultural e o risco de desaparecimento destas pessoas são alguns dos factores que põem em perigo este património inestimável. Neste contexto, a proteção da Amazônia e de seus povos indígenas é um desafio global que requer um compromisso conjunto de vários atores. A Organização do Tratado de Cooperação Amazônica e seus estados membros têm papel fundamental nesta tarefa, pois desde a sua criação priorizaram a conservação dos conhecimentos tradicionais e a proteção dos povos indígenas. Este documento analisa os esforços realizados para preservar os conhecimentos tradicionais dos povos indígenas da Amazônia. Baseia-se na análise documental de informações especializadas e apresenta reflexões sobre o complexo cenário que representa a proteção da Amazônia. Conclui-se que a proteção do conhecimento tradicional indígena não deve se limitar aos esforços de uma única organização. É necessária uma abordagem abrangente que articule as disposições dos diferentes quadros regulamentares, sob a liderança da Organização e dos governos dos oito estados membros. A participação de todos os atores envolvidos é essencial para garantir a preservação deste conhecimento e o bem-estar das comunidades que o guardam.Palavras-chave: Conhecimento tradicional; Amazônia; Tratado de Cooperação Amazônica; povos indígenas; Cooperação internacional.
