Given this scenario, the following research problem was formulated: what is the role of the ethnic voting for the electoral process in a plural society? To guide the work, a hypothesis was formulated that the electoral choices are strongly influenced by the ethnic alignment. This way, it was stablished that the purpose of the essay was to study the relevance of the ethnic issue in the Guyanese electoral system. The first objective was fulfilled throughout the third chapter, in which a historical panorama of the elections between 1947 and 2016 was constructed to show this country so marked by ethnic conflicts. In order to achieve the second, the forth chapter sought to smash various institutional aspects of that society. Finally, the third goal was performed during the fifth chapter, with the tabulation and comparison of all the data that were collected during the research. At the end of the project, this researcher could conclude that the ethnic vote has great importance in Guyanese society. The correlation between the 2012 census data and that of each region's vote in the 2011, 2015 and 2016 elections shows that apanjaht's policy, although not officially endorsed, has a strong appeal. A second conclusion reached during the research is that power-sharing institutes in Guyanese politics have not acted as efficient mechanisms to cushion the dissatisfactions of the ethnic groups surpassed in the elections. Em que pese sua curta história independente, a Guiana experimentou diversos períodos de enfrentamento étnico, quase chegando a experimentar a guerra civil. Diante desse quadro, foi formulado o seguinte problema de pesquisa: qual o papel do voto étnico para o processo eleitoral em uma sociedade plural? Para nortear os trabalhos, formulou-se a hipótese de que as escolhas eleitorais são fortemente influenciadas pelo alinhamento étnico. Estabeleceu-se como objetivo da pesquisa o estudo da relevância da questão étnica no sistema eleitoral guianense. O primeiro objetivo foi cumprido ao longo do terceiro capítulo, no qual se construiu um panorama histórico das eleições, no período de 1947 a 2016, desse país tão marcado por conflitos étnicos. Para a consecução do segundo, o quarto capítulo tratou de esmiuçar diversos aspectos institucionais daquela sociedade. Por fim, a terceira meta foi executada no decorrer do quinto capítulo, com a tabulação e comparação de todos os dados que foram coletados durante a pesquisa. Ao cabo da empreitada, este pesquisador pôde concluir que o voto étnico tem grande importância na sociedade guianense. A correlação dos dados do censo 2012 com os das votações de cada região nas eleições de 2011, 2015 e 2016 demonstram que a política do apanjaht, apesar de não ser oficialmente endossada, possui forte apelo. Uma segunda conclusão atingida durante a pesquisa é que os institutos de compartilhamento do poder na política guianense não têm atuado como mecanismos eficientes de amortecimento das insatisfações das etnias sobrepujadas nas eleições.
