This master's thesis is based on a study on small municipalities in the Amazon, highlighting Cantá - RR, in the context of their potential and limitations. It is understood that man as an agent that (re) organizes space, has been generating socio-spatial transformations, often according to his needs. Therefore, its general objective was to identify the limitations and potential of urban space in the municipality of Cantá-RR. The study started first with bibliographic research; later with documentary research and observation of the study site; after these phases, there was field research, through the application of questionnaires with residents and representatives of public authorities in the city. The accomplishment of these phases sought to answer the specific objectives where they stand out: to analyze the potential that the municipality has, aiming at its development in the state of Roraima and to verify, through the application of questionnaires, and interviews, how the residents perceive the municipality and its importance to the state. In this perspective, we sought to contribute to the understanding of small towns in the Amazon, as it still needs more studies on them. It was also found that Cantá, as a small city in the Northern Amazon, bears traces of the time of its creation as an agricultural colony and has gained prominence with its productions in agriculture and more recently in tourism. It is expected that this research will also contribute to understand the nature and trends of the urban hierarchy of space and the new forms and functions of the urban in the small cities of the Northern Amazon, thus increasing scientific research in the different lines, especially in the constitution of the geographic science. |
