It was made to survey the specific composition and distribution of freshwater shrimp fauna
(Crustacea: Decapoda) in the state of Roraima. The work was based on specimens deposited
in carcinologic collection of the Integrated Museum of Roraima (MIRR), Boa Vista, and the
National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA), Manaus. The examined material originates
from scientific expeditions conducted by researchers from INPA and MIRR in Normandy
municipalities, Bonfim, Alto Alegre, Boa Vista, Amajarí, Cantá, Pacaraima, Caracaraí
Mucajaí and Iracema, and additional samples taken in April period 2014 to April 2015 in
rivers, streams, lakes and ponds (buritis of paths) in the municipalities of Boa Vista, Alto
Alegre, Bonfim and Cantá the savannah region as well as in forest areas, rivers and streams of
1 st and 2nd order creeks in the municipalities of Pacaraima, Sao Luis Anauá, São João da
Baliza, Caroebe, Rorainópolis and part of the lower Rio Branco region (Terra Preta and
Caicubi), located in the municipality of Caracaraí. Two suborders were identified
Pleocyemata and Dendobranchiata, three families, Palaemonidae, Euyrhynchidae and
Sergestidae five genres, Macrobrachium, Pseudopalaemon, Palaemon, Euryrhynchus and
Acetes, and 14 species, 10 of which were registered for the first time in the state of Roraima:
Macrobrachium ferreirai, Macrobrachium sp., Palaemon yuna, Pseudopalaemon chryseus,
Pseudopalaemon gouldingi, Pseudopalaemon sp.¸ Euryrhynchus amazoniensis, Euryrhynchus
burchelli, Euryrhynchus wrzesniowskii and Acetes paraguayensis. Three species,
Macrobrachium amazonicum, Macrobrachium nattereri, Macrobrachium brasiliense and
Macrobrachium jelskii, had recorded new occurrence in the state. The distribution of
freshwater shrimp in Roraima covers fourteen of the fifteen municipalities, occurring in
sixteen basins and sub-basins, living environment of aquatic ecosystems issued, the upland
forest and swamp forest. It provided an identification key to the families, genera and species
recorded for the state, based on morphological characters easier viewing for species
identification. |
