Resumo:
Seira Lubbock, 1870 (Collembola: Entomobryidae) has only two species recorded in the Brazilian Amazon, even though it is the most diverse in Brazil and the largest in Seirini, with approximately 200 described species. The dorsal chaetotaxy is the main characteristic used to describe and compare different species of Seira, but the methods used in the chaetotaxy descriptions have inconsistencies on the divisions of the regions, forms and classifications of the setae. In the present work, Seira was studied taxonomically in the Brazilian Amazon and a new system of dorsal chaetotaxy of the genus was proposed, including an identification key and distribution maps of the species recorded. Eight species were recorded and S. dowlingi (Wray) is first recorded in Brazil and the other seven species are new to science. The Seira A sp. nov., Seira E sp. nov. and Seira F sp. nov. resemble the bluish with 1+1 spot on the side of abdominal segment III and the chaetotaxy especially in the cephalic region, beyond the reduction of macrochaetae in abdominal segment I. Seira B sp. nov. resembles Seira D sp. nov. the standard 1+1 macrochaetae in region 4 of the head and abdominal segment I devoid of macrochaetae. The species S. dowlingi, Seira C sp. nov. and Seira G sp. nov. are similar to one another, especially by macrochaetae numerous in region 4 of head and abdominal segment I. In total, 86 setae were added in the representation of chaetotaxy as macro, meso, microchaetae or as fan-shaped, 16 setae were included in the nomenclature and m3ep was deleted in the segment abdominal III and six region were added in a simplified chaetotaxy system including abdominal segment V. Thus, the current chaetotaxy system passes of 234 for 249 setae named, from 60 to 107 setae with dimorphism and from 69 to only 47 constants macrochaetae and shared among the species of the Seira. As for the distribution of genus, it has now been recordedfor all Brazilian states where Amazon rainforest is found.
